Our story

Our journey with T1D began in December of 2018. Our son wasn't feeling well and could not hold down anything. He was constantly urinating and had zero energy.  What we assumed was the flu turned out to be T1D he was life flighted by helicopter to the nearest children's hospital. He was in DKA, once there he spent a few days in the ICU until he was stable then began the process of learning everything. Fast forward to August 2024 our daughter started feeling off and not right, we asked the doctor to run some labs that something seemed off she would get shaky and was drinking more water than normal and sleep often. Her doctor called, sure enough we were right she was also a type 1 diabetic. It was a bit easier the second round since we had our son with it since 2018. Most people think or assume that T1D is caused from diet when in reality it's far from that. It can range from genetics or even a reaction from being sick and your pancreas one day decides to quit working right or just die off completely. Sometimes there are signs but not always textbook signs it can be a headache a strange feeling, or flu-like symptoms.

We are creating Sugar Coated T1D as an outlet to let everyone who has T1D or knows someone with it that we are not alone we are here to help because no one should feel like they are. T1D is not your fault. Each year about 64,000 people are diagnosed most of them being children ages between 4-14yrs old. Some of the most common signs of type 1 diabetes

-Urinating frequently

-Nonstop Thirst

- Frequent Hunger

-Extremely Fatigued

-Blurry Vision

- Slow healing bruises or cuts

- Weight loss
